Accommodation is based on shared space, spread through 13 buildings. Entry-level accommodation is all shared bedrooms with a minimum of 2 people per bedroom (of the same gender).
Set up and room layout vary by building and accommodation style for entry level colleagues can not be guaranteed prior to arrival.
By Law, we are not permitted to provide a new colleague with contact details of their potential roommates or existing items in the unit.
In most cases we suggest that a "just in case" box be packed and ready to send from home with items that you might have missed. (ie. Coffee maker, toaster, etc)
Travel Options
For travel information and reservations you can contact Brewster Travel at 1-888-762-3207 and also check out the Calgary International Airport website: www.calgaryairport.com, as it is a great resource for bus transportation to Lake Louise. For a detailed list, see Transportation, Buses and Shuttles, and then choose your link. Or you can also call: Calgary Greyhound bus terminal information, 1-800-661-8747. Discounts available with a valid student ID. Ask operator for details.
Brewster Bus (from the Calgary International Airport), call (403) 762-6767, or (403) 221-8242. Discounts are available with proof of employment, such as your offer of employment letter. Also, ask the operator for more details.
If you plan on driving to Lake Louise, the driving directions are:
From Calgary take Trans Canada Hwy 1 west about 130 km to Banff. Lake Louise is about 65 km west of Banff on Trans Canada 1.
From Vancouver take Trans Canada Hwy 1 east about 864 km to Lake Louise. Banff is an additional 65 km east on Trans Canada Hwy 1.
Banff National Park Pass and Parking
If you have a car you will require a park pass. When you reach the Park Gates (if you are driving from Eastern Canada) use the lane on the far right. This lane will allow you to drive through. Once you arrive in the village of Lake Louise you must go the Lake Louise Information Centre. In order to receive your pass from the Information Centre you must have your staff ID card or offer letter, as well as the vehicle registration. There is no charge to residents of Banff National Park.
If you have a vehicle with you or are planning on purchasing one while you are here, you must register your vehicle with Colleague Services. Please ask Colleague Services where to park, as there are designated parking areas on residence property. Colleague Services
The Colleague Services office is located in the Colleague Services building, the beige building you pass when you turn onto St.Piran Street and drive through an opening in the trees on the left. Colleague Services is broken down into 4 general areas: Uniforms, Mail, Housing, and Activities. Working with Human Resources, Colleague Services is here to provide you with the best possible lifestyle.
Uniforms:
Winter Hours of Operation: 8 am - 8 pm, 7 days a week, 9am every ThursdaySummer Hours of Operation: 8 am - 9 pm, 7 days a week, 9am every Thursday
We provide complete uniforms for colleagues. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have a clean uniform, which is in good condition for each shift you are scheduled to work.
When you arrive you will be issued the appropriate size and quantity of uniform(s) from Colleague Services. You are responsible for changing your own uniform. Shower curtains, and hangers will also be provided at the uniform counter. Personal dry cleaning and tailoring is also available, please ask at the counter for the price list.
All departments in the hotel have specific footwear requirements. Food and Beverage and Rooms Division colleagues must have black non-slip polishable shoes (no boots). For complete details please check with Human Resources.
Housing

Lifestyles Assistant Manager
Hours of Operation: 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday (Closed from 12pm-1pm)
Our Lifestyles Assistant Manager is here to organize trips and events, as well as provide you with information about the area. Several colleague only facilities, such as the Lifestyles room and Rockies gym are also provided by Activities. For more information and pictures of activities, events and gym facilities, please click on the Lifestyles tab.
Mail is received Monday to Friday (excluding Statutory holidays). All mail will be sorted by 3:30 pm daily. You can pick up your mail in the Colleague Services Centre. Your suite number and key will be assigned to you when you arrive.
The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise handles all colleague mail in the following manner: Mail is picked up at the local Canada Post Office by Colleague Services. The mail is sorted by suite number and placed into the corresponding mailbox. Parcels or other special postage items are kept secured and must be signed for by the recipient at the uniform desk.
You will be advised of such packages by a note in your mailbox.
Should you wish to organize your own post office box or other alternate arrangements, please contact the Canada Post Depot at 403-522-3870.
Laundry
On site laundry facilities are coin-operated, $1.50 for the washers and $1 for the dryers. Machines are located in the Colleague Services Building, throughout residence in the parkade under Engler, the 2nd floor of Englehard, the basement of Victoria Manor, and the basement of Hector. Please ask for directions if you are unsure of the location. A change machine is located in the Colleague Services Building.
Guest Passes
If you have family or friends coming to visit please make sure you pick up a valid guest pass from the Activities/Housing office. Anyone staying on property past 11 pm must have a valid guest pass to ensure the safety of all our colleagues. There is no charge for the guest pass.
Smoking
The common areas in residence are NON-SMOKING. You may request a smoking room but we may not be able to accommodate all smoking requests, as the units are not all designated in that manner. If you live in a non-smoking unit or choose not to smoke in your unit, you may smoke outside any of the housing buildings. If you live in a smoking unit you can smoke freely within your unit. Please put your cigarettes in the bins provided, not on the carpet or the ground.
Telephones
For the security of our colleagues and under the Federal Privacy of Information Act, Human Resources, Colleague Services, and Royal Service will NOT give out your name under any circumstances.
Personal phone lines are also available in individual rooms. Colleague Services is not responsible for the installation of your phone line, nor do they provide telephones. To request a phone line call the regional TELUS office for installation (a deposit is required). 310-3100.
Recycling
We have made recycling in the colleague areas easy by allowing each tenant to place clean beverage bottles in the blue recycle bins located at each entrance. Coat hangers can be returned to the Colleague Services Centre for reuse. Cardboard can be placed in the green bin outside the Colleague Services building or by Building 3. Further recycling stations for beverage containers and paper can be found in the Hector basement, the parkade under Engler, the 2nd floor of Englehard, and the basement of Feuz.
Colleague Cafeteria ("The Bean")
Every Colleague receives one duty meal per day in The Bean. This facility is operated by the hotel for the convenience of its colleagues and is open on a daily basis as follows:

Vegetarian options are available at every meal.
Internet Room
We offer our colleagues Internet service at a minimal cost. These computers are located in an Internet Room within the Brewster building and are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Benefits
As part of your employment you would be enrolled in our Great-West Life benefits package. For medical coverage there is a 100% co-insurance for hourly colleagues, which includes prescription drugs, global medical assistance (out of country) health insurance.
Health: An annual deductible will apply to healthcare expenses. These services include prescription drugs, physiotherapist up to $1,500/year paramedical services up to $500/year including chiropractor, massage therapist, etc. You are eligible after 90 days of service.
Vision: Prescription glasses and contact lenses to a maximum of $250/24 months. Also covers eye exams up to a maximum of $40/year. You are eligible after 90 days of service. An annual deductible will apply.
Dental: Preventative Services (cleaning, x-rays, etc) at 100%, Basic Services (fillings, root canals, etc) at 100% and Major Services (crowns, bridges, dentures etc) at 50%. Annual deductible will apply for dental expenses. You are eligible after 365 days of service.
Additional information will be provided during the Hotel Orientation. As a new colleague you will also be given the opportunity to register for Alberta Provincial Health Care, which will take three months to obtain. The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise will begin paying your premium (currently $44/month, subject to change) for Alberta Health Care the first day of the fourth month. Should you prefer to continue coverage under your home provincial health care plan, it is important that you contact them directly to advise them that you will be temporarily out of the province.
Destinations Travel Program
Fairmont Hotels and Resorts offers a Destinations Travel Program that provides hotel accommodation with food and beverage at a discounted rate while on leisure travel, outside Lake Louise, on space available basis.
Colleagues become eligible to participate in the Destinations program after 3 months of service. There is no limit on the number of room nights that you may use under the program, however, every reservation is subject to space availability at the hotel. There is a 50% discount on all food and beverage charges for you and your registered guests.
Bookings can be made as early as 3 months in advance of the requested arrival date. Room bookings are subject to availability and some "black-out" periods may apply.
Friday Edition "My News"
Our colleague newsletter is published and distributed weekly. It includes upcoming events, hotel and staff activities, committee updates, service plus nominations, classified ads, local interest, heritage, health and safety, environmental news, benefits, and other relevant information. Your input is encouraged and welcomed.
Communication Boards
Communication Boards are located in each department, our staff cafeteria and throughout housing. They are used for things such as up coming staff events, regional activities, new policies or procedures, and committee updates.

Grooming Policy
Every Colleague's appearance and grooming contributes to Fairmont's distinctive style. Therefore appearance and grooming standards have been developed so that each Colleague will know how to present themselves to meet the expectations of our Guests.
Hair- Hair must be clean, neatly combed and allow for eye contact at all times. Colored or tinted hair must appear natural and be well maintained.
- Hair must be conservatively styled. Extreme (e.g. asymmetrical, bi-level etc.) styles are unacceptable. The height above one's head should not exceed two inches.
- Heads partially shaven, logos, geometric patterns, or designs in the hair are not permitted.
- Gels, sprays, and hair mousse may be used conservatively.
- Colleagues in food service areas must comply with health department regulations.
- Males: Hair must not extend over the collar and must be neatly trimmed around the collar and ears. Shaved heads are permitted and should be maintained daily, with no stubble. Brush cuts must be no shorter than a #2 clipper.
- Females: Long hair must be restrained. Conservative barrettes, combs, headbands, clips and bow/ribbons may be worn, if complementary to hair and uniform.
- Wigs may be worn if the above conditions are met.
- Neatly trimmed beards are permitted if fully grown (no new beards are to be grown on the job). Beards must be no longer than a #2 clipper.
- Moustaches are permitted but must not extend beyond the corner of the mouth or top of lip.
- Sideburns must be neatly trimmed, and must not extend beyond mid-ear. They must be of a conservative style; flares or muttonchops are unacceptable.
- Goatees are classified as a narrow beard with moustache around the mouth and chin area. "Coin size" or chin only beards are not permitted.
- Conservative jewellery may be worn in moderation, but may not detract from the uniform or business attire. Hemp or string bracelets or necklaces are not permitted. Gold or Silver (or likeness) is the only permissible jewellery.
- Jewellery will not be allowed where it might cause a safety hazard, for example around mechanical equipment.
- Ankle bracelets and visible body piercing (e.g. tongue, nose, eyebrow, etc.) are not allowed.
- Females: May wear small studs or hoop earrings (no larger than a quarter). One pair is permitted - with one earring in each ear in the lower lobe. Earrings should be close to the ear: post or clip-ons are acceptable, large or dangle earrings are unacceptable.
- Males: Are not permitted to wear earrings while on duty.
- Uniformed Colleagues may only wear accessories issued as part of the uniform. Items such as belts with designs, hats, headbands, and bandannas, among others are not permitted.
- Sunglasses are not to be worn indoors, in dark areas or at night. Prescription sunglasses may be worn only when necessary, but must not be mirrored, silver-coated or opaque.
- Hats must be worn if they are required for health and safety reasons, or if they are part of a prescribed uniform.
- A maximum number of two pins may be worn with the uniform. No unauthorized pins are allowed.
- Tattoos must not be visible.
- Combs, wallets, or other large objects should not be visible or carried in pockets.
- Hosiery must be worn at all times and be in good repair, of a neutral color and coordinated with the uniform or business attire.
- Females: Colleagues who are required to wear pantyhose must wear sheer or opaque stockings. Extreme colors, patterned or textured hose, or hosiery trimmed with decorations is unacceptable.
- Males: Must wear color-coordinated socks.
- Hands and nails should be clean at all times. Nails should be neatly trimmed and should not extend more than ¼ inch beyond the end of the finger.
- Perfumes or eau de cologne must be discreet and worn with moderation.
- Females may wear nail polish, which is well maintained, meets health and safety standards, and is of a neutral or conservative color, which complements the uniform or business attire.
- Colleagues in Food and Beverage are not permitted to wear nail polish while on duty.
- Make-up should promote a professional well-groomed image. It should be used as an accent only and should be applied conservatively and compliment normal skin tones. Extreme colors and/or excessive amounts are not permitted.
- Colleagues will wear uniforms that are clean, neatly pressed and in good repair. Colleagues will keep the uniforms in the condition as issued and The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise will perform any needed alterations.
- Uniforms are not to be worn when not on duty and are not to be worn off hotel property unless on company business.
- Any medical exceptions to these guidelines, such as orthopedic shoes or inability to shave, must be presented to your manager and the Human Resources Department in the form of a written medical doctor's note.
- Some departments may require specific shoes. Please contact your leader for details.
- Footwear must be clean, polished, and in good condition. Footwear must also meet health and safety requirements (CSA approved) where applicable and have non-slip/non-skid soles.
- Athletic footwear is not permitted except in the Sports Department.
- In those positions where heels are allowed the maximum height is two inches.
- In most departments black shoes with black stitching are required. "Boot Style" shoes are not permitted.
- Females are not permitted to wear sandals, open toed or open heeled shoes.
- Nametags will be worn at all times while on duty. They will be worn on the upper left chest area and will be worn on the outermost layer of clothing.
- No unauthorized pins, decorations, or stickers will be added to the nametag.
- Nametags must be in good condition and legible.
- Worn or damaged nametags will be replaced at no charge through Human Resources. There is a charge to replace a lost nametag.
